The cultural conversation around gender roles and sexuality have evolved significantly since the play premiered in 2010. We’ve poured a great deal of thought, research, care and consideration into honoring all the moments where the text was ahead of its time, and adding intertextual moments and blocking to bring it to 2026. The core of our concept is simple, Venus is the goddess of love. That’s the foundation on which we built everything, especially our exploration and celebration of gender fluidity, sex positivity, and BDSM. We hope to welcome a queer, kinky audience who will feel seen and loved by the time they leave the theatre.
